the known world…

it is easy to be lulled into thinking we have things discovered and accounted for. documented. known. that’s what makes discovery so fantastic. finding something new and significant feels rare. only weeks ago, we discovered a Mexican free-tailed bat roost that numbers in the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions…i wonder, what else is out there in the “known” world…?

  1. That is awesome. I love bats! I host a large group of nectarivorous Mexican long-nosed bats every night during monsoon at my hummingbird feeder. We just got a bigger feeder—they went through the one-cup feeder in half an hour, now I get to enjoy their company for a few hours every night at sunset. They’re amazing, and we need pollinators more than ever now with horrible fires over the summer. I never heard of free-tailed bats—are they insectivorous? I wish people didn’t fear them so much!
